How to RSVP to Yacht Club Events
-
Be on the lookout for your email invitation. We have roughly one event a month, usually around the 2nd Thursday of the month. If you don’t get an invitation, check your spam folder as sometimes the mass Evite gets flagged as spam.
-
Read the WHOLE invitation. It’s impossible to put all the event details on the front of the invitation, so you need to OPEN it and possibly click MORE to read ALL the details.
-
RSVP in a timely manner. Our social committee uses the RSVP’s to plan the event and to make sure that we have enough food and beverages. Lori will always put an “RSVP by” date on the invitation. To prevent you from being bothered by Evite reminders, if you haven’t RSVP’d by the given date, you will be marked as “NOT ATTENDING.”
-
If it is an event that must be paid for, you now have four ways to make payment:
-
Drop off a check to Lori (144 Heron Pointe Drive) or her designated captain (address will be provided in the invitation).
-

An important maritime and social target event is our annual Big Boat Cruise. Due to the fun that was had last year, this year’s cruise will once again take us to Smithfield Station in Smithfield, VA. The trip is being organized by Cruise Co-Captains Chip Moore and Lisa Guzzardo.
The Smithfield Station facility has both boat slips and hotel rooms/cottages, so CCYC members without boats can attend the event. There is a small pool, nice shower facilities (for those coming by boat), and a few on-site shops. There is also a sensibly priced restaurant that serves a wonderful brunch on Sunday mornings.
Friday night we will most likely have an early happy hour with beverages and snacks provided by the Yacht Club. Then there.will be time for small group activities and dinners. On Saturday night, 5/31/25, we have a pay-as-you-go group dinner at the marina restaurant, similar to what we did last year!
The town of Smithfield is in walking distance with beautiful historic homes, shops and several restaurants and bakeries. For the health-conscious, there is a 5-mile walking trail at the Windsor Castle Park, directly across the street from the marina/hotel.
Smithfield Station Highlights
Quotes from the website: Easily accessible, with deep channels, from the Chesapeake Bay and ICW on the Pagan River in Smithfield, Virginia, The Marina at Smithfield Station is a serene refuge with unparalleled service and hospitality. Having received many Best of the Bay awards in multiple categories from Chesapeake Bay Magazine over the last decade, Smithfield Station was most recently awarded Best Dockmaster, Best Marina, Best Dockside Bar, and Best Crabcakes. Historic Smithfield is a charming diversion for cruisers who want to enjoy a colonial-era town and beautiful natural surroundings just off the James River. For those who crave a hearty and delicious meal after a day at sea, the marina’s restaurant serves creative dishes featuring world-famous Smithfield Ham, as well as fresh seafood from the bounty of the Chesapeake Bay’s estuaries.
